To Ralph, Errol, and Felix,
Read the post about Trinidad. We played with many musicians including Clive ‘Zanda’ Alexander and my old freind, drummmer Sean Thomas. Clive and I have been in contact and he taught us “Every Time Ah Pass” when we were jamming with him and his band at Satchmo’s. We recorded an arrangement of that tune for our new CD “Americas” which will be released soon. I hope to bring Clive’s quartet to Jazz At Lincoln Center as I thought they were playing some of the best Caribbean jazz I’ve ever heard.

Paul, you are so right that no one likes to be “networked”.

In my experience, it’s better to have the intention to connect with like-minded people in the room. Making a connection goes a lot deeper than simple networking.

It’s good to get a sense of who the other person is, and what they’re looking to achieve, before you even think about attempting to sell yourself. But when we make an authentic connection with someone, we make a friend.
